What are Synthetic B Vitamins made from?

Synthetic B Vitamins are made in a lab and the origins of the ingredients used are a bit surprising. To help you decide whether to use synthetic vitamins or not we list the materials that are used to produce them.

B 1- Thiamine- Synthetic forms are Thiamin hydrochloride (Thiamine HCL) and thiamin mononitrate. Usually made with the use of a coal tar derivative Grewe diamine created through a chemical process using hydrochloric acid, acetonitrile with ammonia

B 2- Riboflavin- Produced with Acetic acid 2N (main ingredient in Vinegar) and nitrogen. Might be a cause of stomach irritation when taking synthetic B vitamins

B 3- Niacin- Synthetic form is nicotinic acid and is usually made in a process that uses coal tar formaldehyde and ammonia

B 5- Pantothenate- Synthetic form is Pantothenic acid, Panthenol, Calcium D-Pantothenate. Processes to produce synthetic forms most always include condensing isobutyraldehyde with formaldehyde and/or alcohol.

B 6- Pyridoxine- Synthetic form is pyridoxine hydrochloride made with volatile ester, hydrochloric acid with formaldehyde

B 7- Biotin- synthetic form is d-Biotin. Made by hydrolyzing phytin (nutritional inhibutor) with calcium hydroxide and sulphuric or fumaric acid

B 9- Folate- synthetic form is folic acid that is a crystalline structure not found in nature. Produced with petroleum derivatives, acetylene and acids

B 12- Cobalamin- the synthetic form is cyanocobalamin produced by fermenting cobalt and cyanide
